"I Am Woman" - concert/lecture by Willa Bassen,

An in-depth look at the life and times of legendary female songwriters and performers, starting with the great trailblazers of the 1930's and '40's (Billie Holliday, Bessie Smith), continuing to the pop stars of the '50's and '60's (Etta James, Leslie Gore) and moving into the '60's and '70's. Inspiring songs of empowerment, solidarity and defiance, the women's movement collided with pop and rock music to forever change the nature of the American song. Songs include 'Respect' (Aretha Franklin), 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow' (Carole King), 'Proud Mary' (Tina Turner), 'At Seventeen' (Janis Ian) and of course, "I Am Woman' (Helen Reddy).
